Something Reeks of Awesomeness

With the second full week of June in the books, let's look back at what caught my attention...

First off, Breaking Bad has only one episode left of season III. My excitement level is at an all time high with this show as it hasn't let me down yet. On a sad note, there is only one episode left which means I have too damn long to get my actors cooking meth fix. Oh well, Rescue Me will be on soon so I won't keep my head down too long.

The MTV Movie awards and CMT Video Music awards were both on this week. I only watched bits and pieces of both shows. The two awards shows were decent but one thing stood out the most... Les fucking Grossman!!! Yes, Tom cruise put the fat suit back on and busted out dance skillz I haven't seen since MC Hammer's "Can't Touch This". Oh don't believe me? Check this shiznit out...

Ben Stiller has verified that he along with Cruise are going to make a Les Grossman movie based on his life to become a top movie producer. I get goose bumps thinking about Les screaming at young dumbass talent in this movie. It spells one word... H-I-L-A-R-I-O-U-S!

Moving on to the world of sports, the Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup by defeating the Filthadelphia Flyers. Thank the hockey gods for this win. Other than the Red Wings, there is no other puck team I loath more than those pesky Flyers. With my team, the Penguins, winning Lord Stanley's Cup last year and now the 'Hawks I am riding a gravy train with biscuit wheels among hockey fans. Nothing like bashing my friends who love the Flyers for the next 11 months. Let's hope Crosby can get the Pens back in the championship series next season.

In political news, Alvin Greene has become the new Democratic nominee for Senate. Who is Alvin Greene? Exactly what everyone else wants to know. So far we have learned that Greene is an unemployed Army veteran, facing a felony obscenity charge, and showed no signs of having waged an actual campaign in recent months b y doing no advertising and with no staff. This is what our political foundation has come to. I find this whole situation quite funny but for only one reason... he is a nobody who beat a longtime politician. The guy sounds like a complete moron (my own personal opinion of coarse) and is what the Republican party needs to humiliate the left wing.

Move Over Basketball, Hello Opening Day.

The beginning of April is upon us which means many great things in the world of sports. I haven't posted anything about sports in quite some time so I feel it's my duty to share my thoughts on the subject. March Madness has come to an end, the baseball season is here, Nascar is getting back into the swing of things, and many more things to comment on.

Duke has won another NCAA Tournament title defeating Butler 61-59. I admit that I had Duke going to the final four in my bracket but could not have imagined them winning the entire tourney. This proves that the tournament is fine the way it is and they should not add more teams like they will most likely do. Butler had a great run but came up a little short in the end. However, I am pleased that did not win. Not because I don't like them nor respect their performances in the tournament. It's boils down to who deserves it. If Butler would have won, it would give all the critics more of a reason to say they need to expand the field which goes against how I feel. Also, Duke plays in a much harder conference (maybe not this year) so I think they somewhat deserve a championship more than a team who won a few lucky games. It might be wrong of me but that's just the way I feel about this subject.

Well now that all that pumpkin pushing is over, it's time to focus on America's favorite past time, Baseball! The official opening day was yesterday and it was the best that I can remember. So many great games were held and it's only a glimpse of what's to come this season. Albert Pujols jacked out two homers, the rookie Jason Heyward hit a bomber on his first at-plate appearance, and Mark Buehrle had one of the most incredible plays ever. I don't just mean like ever as in recent memory, I mean ever! The Mets are tied for first place in the NL East. I know it's only the first game of the season but it's the best they've been in a while. I swear if they don't make the playoffs then I'm finished with them. Okay that's a lie. I say it every year but they always suck me back in. I will make my season predictions now since the season has officially begun. I say it will be the Yankees vs White Sox in the AL and the Cardinals vs the Phillies in the NL. Cardinals beat the Yankees in the World Series.

The Sprint Cup series has a few races under its belt and once again Jimmie Johnson is back to his winning ways. Every race is becoming Johnson vs the field for the fans. I can't take credit away from JJ because the man is full of talent, but something is fishy with that #48 race team. How is it that he has three other teammates and yet they seem to finish behind him? Either they are not sharing certain information or they have found how to do something illegal without being caught. I think it's called auto-pilot. Having Johnson win every 4 out of 5 races doesn't make me stop watching but it takes away the eagerness to watch every race. Now I only tune in for the beginning and the final 15 laps. Main reason; I don't care to watch JJ lead every lap and listen to the announcers talk about him like he's a mythical god. I'm sorry to say this but Earnhardt Jr needs to start winning some races to pull the fans back into the sport. When the most popular driver finishes outside the top 15 week in, week out, it eventually hurts viewer ratings.

Tiger Woods has returned to golf. Thank God! Now let's put this whole story behind us and get on with what the fans really want... to see Tiger destroy the competition. The main stream media will be around for a few months but will eventually get bored of watching grown men hit little white dimple balls. I'll give this whole "scandal" another 3 months to run it's course then the cover of the tabloids will be back to a real hero; Bat Boy!

The NBA & NHL season are approaching the playoffs. Hmm... I really have little to comment on this. Their seasons take way too long and both sports look to have the same top teams dominate the playoff system. I haven't watched a full hockey game since the Olympics and it's mainly because the Olympics spoiled us fans. They showed to us that with an all star roster, every game can be dynamic. NHL has too many teams with too many mediocre players. Shorter the number of teams and shorten the season to liven things up. The NBA will have a few good playoff series but other than that I expect the Lakers to be there in the end as usual. Hopefully the Bulls get some star power this off-season like they've been saying for the past four years.

It could happen. Possibly.

Subliminal Messages

The knowledge has just been delivered to my mind through a web graphic that the new Twilight movie trailer has been posted online. Do you know what this means? Well, let me tell you. Every heart throbbing Edward or Jacob Twilight maniac is going to boost the you-tube views to record highs until the movie opens in theaters.

This is all obvious information that any knuckle head can conclude themselves. But in the midst of me thinking about all the crazed fans for this movie, it hit me. I know how we can solve a bunch of our problems, not only in this country, but the world. It will take a little help from subliminal messages. I know it might not be "ethically" correct way of thinking but honestly we haven't been doing that great of a job on our own thinking.

This is my concept; put little positive subliminal messages into blockbuster movies, such as the new Twilight movie. Subliminal messages can be in either visual or audio capacity and normally are done without anyone ever knowing it. For example; let's say you are sitting in a jam packed movie theater watching Bella confess all of her love for Edward or Jacob (I wouldn't know) when all of a sudden you feel the urge to donate blood tomorrow. You can't recall why this need to help possibility save another life has all of a sudden come into your thought process. It would have been because of a small subliminal message that was put into the audio of Bella's speech that your mind didn't really comprehend enough to allow you to notice it.

Can you imagine all the good we could get if movies were allowed to do this kind of semi-hypnosis? I may be the only one who thinks this is logically a good idea but I'm only trying to think of good ways to get people to stop being so selfish and help out people in need. What would it hurt is a small subliminal message in a movie told you to donate blood, recycle all of your cans/plastics, carpool, donate your time at a homeless shelter, or even start a canned food drive. Let's be honest, I need to practice what I preach but a little motivation given to myself would go a long way. I am an avid movie viewer and if the Matrix told me years ago to start putting away $10 a week into a saving account, I would have a nice chunk of change to invest at the moment.

Now of course there are a few flaws in my basic concept. Anemic people can't just go giving blood. I'm not suggesting a full on Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom trance by a voodoo  doctor. Just like a small hint in the normal audio that maybe up-lifts people enough to help out. I've heard of soda machines that have a small audio subliminal message that encourages you to buy a soda. This doesn't mean diabetics are running like zombies to chug down a sugar-packed Mt Dew.

Some might think my idea is "morally" wrong but that's why it's my idea. Just imagine walking out of a movie theater and feeling really good (cause the movie was awesome) because tomorrow you are going to the local blood drive to give a piece of yourself that might save others. The media these days swindles us into believing certain things anyways, yes I'm calling out you msnbc and fox news, so why not Hollywood too. Apparently Disney has put some small visual subliminal message into their movies over the years. I might be on the wrong track off thinking, but who's really on the right track these days? The government? That makes me chuckle.

This is the most important award of the night. So many nominees this year compared to years past. I personally have only seen two of these films and both were really good. Avatar looks to be the front runner but I think The Hurt Locker or Up in the Air could surprise us.

Who Wins Their Confrence?

Well it has been a long time since I have posted anything on this blog. I blame Seinfeld & That 70's Show re-runs to be honest. Anyway, the NFL season is coming to close with the conference championship games this weekend. The match-ups are Jets vs Colts and Vikings vs Saints. I thought I'd put my own input on these games and what outcomes I would be most interested in seeing happen.

The first game on Sunday is the J-E-T-S traveling to face Manning's Colts. The odds on favorite to win this game is Indy, but the Jets are making that playoff wild card run thats been happening the last few years. The Colts have the more explosive offense with Peyton slinging the ball and the Jets have the dominant defense with blitz enthusiast Coach Rex Ryan at the helm. Manning is going to see a lot of pressure but with the multiple weapons to choose from I don't see the Colts falling to the adrenaline riding green team. Sanchez will most likely make some rookie mistakes but his D will keep the game close in hand. I say final score 24-17 Colts victorious.

The NFC game is a little harder to predict. The questions is which Brett Farve will show up Sunday night? He either has miraculous games or complete failures. I don't see him throwing 4 touchdowns against the Saints defense like he did against the Cowboys last weekend. Favre and Brees are having their best seasons but you can thank their supporting cast for those stats. Percy Harvin has suprised everyone with his stellar rookie year. Drew Brees has multiple targets to throw or hand off to, especially Reggie Bush who has emerged this last week as a serious threat. I think the Saints have the upper hand but I'm going out on a limb here and saying the old man perserveres. Vikings win 34-27 in the final seconds of the game.

If my predictions become true, this would give us a Peyton Manning vs Brett Favre Super Bowl. Arguably two of the best quarterbacks of all time. Each hold countless records and have solidified themselves in the Hall of Fame. If this happens, I can see this game breaking all previous tv ratings because of the dynamic match-up. Let's hope this Sunday provides two really good games with the winners actually deserving to play for the Lombardi Trophy.
